The population of Vietnam is around 97 million, which is 3 times to Malaysia. According to statistics, at least one-sixth of Vietnamese will go to work abroad to earn a higher salary.
Vietnam has sent laborers to Malaysia since April 2002. At present, about 220,000 Vietnamese laborers after the two countries signed an MoU on labour cooperation.
Manufacturing attracts the highest number of Vietnamese laborers in such industries, electronics, seafood processing, mechanics and textile. Vietnamese laborers are also making a great contribution to Malaysia’s service and agriculture sectors thanks to their hard work, adroitness, and good attitude.
Vietnam used to send approximately 7,000 laborers to Malaysia every year, 2015 with 401 Vietnamese migrant workers employed in Malaysia in the manufacturing and construction sectors.
But the halt of the Malaysian Government in February 2016 caused a dramatic decline of 75% in the number of exported labours in the first eight months of this year, which reached only 1,762 workers.
According to Malaysia Department of Overseas Labour under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), the duration for employers to receive their employees will be limited to six hours instead of 24, at two Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2).
The notice also said that if employers did not pick up laborers within six hours of them entering Malaysia, they would be sent back to their countries.
